Most products need more than one workstream. Running them on one schedule beats running them one after another.
It depends on which authorization path applies and how much test time your product needs. A digital device under Part 15 Subpart B is the shortest, lowest-cost path. An intentional radiator under Subpart C or E needs substantially more — output power, bandwidth, spurious emissions and band edges have to be shown for every band and every mode.

Lab time for a typical single-radio product runs from a few days to a couple of weeks once the unit is in the chamber, depending on bands and modes. After testing, the report goes to a TCB for review and grant issuance.
The biggest schedule risk is not the lab — it is a failure found late. That is the argument for pre-compliance before the design freeze.
Two different procedures. SDoC covers most unintentional radiators — ordinary digital devices. You test to the requirements, hold the report on file, and take responsibility yourself. No FCC ID, no third-party grant.
Certification covers intentional radiators — transmitters. The report goes through a Telecommunication Certification Body, and your product receives an FCC ID that appears in the FCC’s public database.
An FCC ID is the identifier issued when a product completes Certification. It is a Grantee Code assigned to your company plus a product code you choose. You need one if your product contains an intentional radiator requiring Certification. Ordinary digital devices under SDoC do not get one.
Usually yes, though the scope is smaller. A certified module carries its grant into your product only if you meet the module’s integration conditions exactly — antenna type and gain, host layout constraints, labelling.
Your finished product still needs unintentional radiator testing under Part 15 Subpart B, and any deviation from the module’s conditions can require a permissive change or a new authorization. Send us the module grant and your integration details and we will confirm the scope.
